Integration of Iberoamerican Laboratories for R+D+I on Advanced ReRAM Devices Applied to AI

Given the varied and often limited infrastructure capabilities for the experimental development of advanced electronic materials and integrated devices in Ibero-American countries (often coupled to a lack of awareness of the infrastructure even within the same countries), this work aims to provide a look at the main experimental infrastructure and research activities done on 12 academic institutions distributed in 6 countries, where ReRAM devices and others, could be explored and applied to artificial intelligence (AI). This initiative has turned into a network of academic partners called “nanoredIA” (funded by CYTED, Programa Iberoamericano de Ciencia y Tecnología para el Desarrollo), promoting several research and development (R&D) activities on ReRAM and AI, ranging from basic physics studies, integrated circuit design (digital/analog modes), processing and device performance simulations, fabrication, characterization and modeling of resistive memories using SPICE, Python and other tools, design, modeling, simulation and characterization of radiofrequency (RF) integrated devices, reliability testing, neuromorphic computing, virtual laboratories for remote testing of devices, among others. Since this network aims to promote and strengthen an Ibero-American infrastructure platform to accelerate AI development through access to several laboratories, this workshop on memristors could further help towards this goal, promoting R&D collaboration but also, innovation activities when the right partners and projects are set up and where the semiconductor industry could also be involved. This can help to reduce the technological gap that some institutions, laboratories and graduate students may have within the Ibero-American region and, in turn, bring them closer to advanced technologies to promote a modernization of curricula and strengthen collaborations between our countries. Finally, nanoredIA is open to engage with more collaborators aiming to strength the infrastructure and research efforts of ReRAM development (and additional devices) with applications towards IA for Ibero-America.
